Nuclear Fusion

Post by Rbjustme on Thu Dec 17, 2015 10:14 am

I have followed this subject for many years. There are two types of nuclear energy, the first as we know it which is used today is fission. This is where the atom is split and produces huge amounts of energy and is widely used to generate electricity throughout the world, it's the cleanest of technology used today, but with devastating consequences should something go wrong with the reactor, as we have all seen before. With today's safety protocol's and technology available to day these reactors are much safer than before.

The second type of nuclear energy is fusion, which has been researched for may years, and it involves heating a gas to extreme temperatures causing ions to fuse together producing huge amounts of energy much larger than fission does. It has no emissions whatsoever, and does not run away or produce radio active fallout, should the reactor fail. In the early days with this research the amount of energy needed to produce fusion far outweighed the energy produced by the reactor an was inefficient.

With the event of new technology and the ability to decrease the size of the fusion reactor, from a huge building down to the size of a truck, this technology is now at the stage where a prototype will be developed within 5 years, leading the way for clean energy and solve the energy crisis without emissions throughout the entire world. Scientist have just made this breakthrough in Germany. This type of reactor could be used to power aircraft without fuel as well as many other uses, as it never runs out of energy. Quite a remarkable achievement, as only 12 months ago, nuclear fusion was a long long way off.

The last video in this link give the basic concepts on this latest development, and was released just a few days ago.

Maybe it will make the oil companies rethink their strategy on world dominance? Idea

The way that oil prices are falling that maybe sooner rather than later, although petrol prices aren't falling. Nup!

Good point Jumpin' Jack, the whole energy sector around the world seems to have nearly reached the saturation point?

Well it's on the way, the German scientist (the first post) have switched on the reactor and have taken a huge step froward towards harnessing nuclear fusion just two days ago! An outstanding achievement! Thumbs up mate!
If the world survives long enough, this will solve the energy crisis and pollution problems, but sadly not in my time though.

However the future looks bright. Idea

I see the Chinese are in on this as well, in competition with Germany.

OMG the Chinese are well known for lack of quality control, I shudder to think what could happen.
